Essay Writing

Essay Writing The language of the question, especially the directive words, will indicate the type of essay and suggest an appropriate structure to follow in your essay. More information on directive words is contained in the QUT cite|write booklet . Essays are used as assessment at University to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of a topic. It is worth attending to all of the suggestions and comments you receive, and trying to act on them. Crafting a report is an easy deal whenever you decide to cooperate with us. The introduction should identify the topic; give essential background information and/or definitions of key words where necessary; and indicate the direction and angle of your argument. As you research your essay topic, search for this story of surprise, and don’t start writing until you can find it. Every story is about conflict and change, and the truth is that essays are about conflict and change, too! The difference is that in an essay, the conflict is between different ideas, the change is in the way we should perceive those ideas. However, toward the end of my time as a student, I made a breakthrough. As with teaching, it is often not until you try to communicate an argument and its evidence that you find where the gaps are in your knowledge or argument. So don’t be afraid of writing down your ideas before they are fully formed, or in the ‘right’ order. Good, constructively critical feedback can give you excellent guidance on how to improve your essay writing. I figured out how to not only write a great essay, I learned how to have fun while doing it. I know personally how boring writing an essay can be, and also, how hard it can be to write a good one. Honestly, throughout most of high school and college, I was a mediocre essay writer. Examples of this type of essay include compare, compare and contrast or differentiate questions. In this structure the similarities and/or differences between two or more items, for example, theories or models, are discussed paragraph by paragraph. Most students make the mistake of writing too much knowledge and not enough evaluation . The body of the essay consists of a number of paragraphs in which you present your main points and evidence to support them. If you have planned and prepared appropriately, writing the body of the essay should be fairly easy. It will almost be a case of expanding what you have in note form into complete sentences, adding specific details where necessary. They are also useful tools to promote thinking and learning. You are required to develop an argument and apply critical thinking skills to analyse a range of academic sources in support of your argument. We will produce a document that will blow the teacher away. No more cramming as the paper is delivered right on time. Make sure you have researched all the content, information accuracy checked. Try writing an essay in a way that the user finds it interesting and develops enthusiasm in it and finishes it completely. Your assignment task may require you to make a recommendation about the suitability of the items you are comparing. Following body paragraphs These follow the same structure for as many arguments as you wish to put forward in support of the topic. Examples of this include questions which ask you to discuss, analyse, investigate, explore or review. In an analytical structure you are required to break the topic into its different components and discuss these in separate paragraphs or sections, demonstrating balance where possible. Before you start, it is important to understand what type of essay you are required to write. The QUT cite|write booklet contains information on critical thinking. However, even an experienced writer needs to be deliberate and thorough in order to write a well-constructed essay. An essay assesses the strength of your critical thinking and your ability to put that thinking into a persuasive written form. You may feel that, for your particular essay, structures like these feel too rigid. You may wish to create a more flexible or fluid structure.
